Thursday 6th December
Game of the night for Junior Basketball on Thursday night was between Black and Green in the Under 16 boys. Green were only 2 points up at half time and 6 points up with 2 minutes to go but a great come back in the last minute enabled Black to draw the game. Best players were G Heinrich, N Riethmuller, C Davey and J Price. In the other Under 16 games Blue 25 defeated Yellow 14. Best players D Sexton, N Scapin and J Franklin. White 30 defeated Maroon 21. Best players D Manuel, M Crook and D Smith.
In the Under 16 girls White 44 defeated Red 17. Best players A Ryan, E Drakeford and K Hubble. Blue 33 defeated Yellow 22. Best players M Brown, L Taylor and H Sunley. Black 22 defeated Green 18. Best players K Stevens, C Eats and A Silver.
Another nail biting finish in the Under 12 boys saw Yellow 20 snatch victory from White 19. Best players T Hook, K Morris and K Garlett. Blue 6 defeated Black 4. Best players M Crook, Z Alvaro . Red 20 defeated Maroon 6. Best players Z Jolly, D Wells and B Millington.
In the Under 12 girls Black 30 defeated Green 26. Best players I Tieland, J Manoni, E Downsborough and T Hook. Grey 30 defeated White 10. Best players E Berryman, J Griffiths E de Lacy and A Wynne.
Thursday 29th November
A chill wind was blowing on Thursday night when the Juniors played basketball. In the Under 16 boys White narrowly defeated Blue 18-16. Best players M Richards, D Sexton and M Crook. Maroon 26 defeated Black 21 best players D Smith, N Riethmuller and C Clarke. Green 47 defeated Yellow 36. Best players G Heinrich, K Beilken and J Parker.
In the Under 16 Girls Blue 32 defeated White 28. Best players C Alvaro, E Drakeford and J Spencer. Green 34 defeated Yellow 24. Best players T Ifould, L Drakeford and D Jolly. Black 24 defeated Red 6. Best players K Stevens, L Wells and K Hubble.
Yellow had some great shots to win over Green 40-22. Best players P Corunna, N Beck and J Manoni. White 22 defeated Black 10 Best players C Walsh, E Downsborough, E Berryman and L Settineri.
In the Under 12 Boys Red had a comfortable win over Blue 14-4. Best players D Dixon, T Beck and T Lane. Green 13 defeated Black 10. Best players E Jarvis, D Nicholls and D Alvaro. Yellow 12 defeated Maroon 6. Best players D Higgins, M Stevens and E Corey.
Just a reminder that the game that was washed out on the 22nd of November will be played in the new year.
Thursday 25th October
Junior Basketball is off to a flying start. With 220 children registering for the season it has been a nightmare grading the teams but fantastic for the competition. It is the largest number we have had in recent years.
The Under 8s are reminded that they need to be at the courts by 4.30 so they can all start on time. The Under 8 competition concentrates on skills and playing short matches with other teams so no scores or best players are recorded. So have FUN under 8s and enjoy your basketball. Tip of the week –try not to run with the ball.
All teams in the U12s and U16s are full so unless people are leaving town there isn’t any room in any of the teams. Too many players in the teams means less playing time for the kids and it is very hard for coaches to sub kids on and off with a lot of players.
Results of games on Thursday night are: In the Under 16 girls there was a relatively high scoring game between Blue and Black considering it was the opening game of the season. Blue 44 defeated Black 36. Best players: M Brown, K Stevens, J Spencer. Green 30 defeated Red 11. Best players were T Ifould, K Dixon, A Ghiradi. It was a reasonably close game with Yellow 30 defeating White 20. best players being L Taylor, L Drakeford and R Powell.

Under 12 girls and Boys were played at 5.30pm. Players are reminded to be there all ready for a 5.30pm start. In the girls Green 30 defeated White 22 Best players S Ghirardi, R Wilkins and S Hayden. Yellow 26 defeated Grey 10 Best players S Caridi, S de Lacy and C Abraham. In the under 12 Boys there are 7 packed teams which is great for future basketball in Merredin. Red 16 defeated Maroon 4. Best players C Farmer, J Richards and Z Jolly. Yellow 20 defeated White 12. Best players E Corey, B Alvaro and K Garlett. Black 14 defeated Blue 6. Best players Z Alvaro, C Gartrell and S Alberti.
On Thursday, just after the completion of the U 12s game there will be a meeting in the bar area for Coaches and umpires of all teams just to discuss a few items.
